It's time for another weekly alphabetical project! Instead of living, breathing animals, we're now doing an A-to-Z of mythical creatures and fictional monsters called ALPHABEASTS!

This week's piece is from the mind of George Lucas. I hadn't done a Star Wars themed Alphabeast up to now. In fact, I had intended to keep all my drawings for this series in the realm of ancient human legends, eschewing modern popular fiction, altogether. But since I broke down that wall with my Gremlins piece, then the Mangalore found its way in here, I figured I could do another sci-fi drawing.

The Quarren are a race of sentient aquatic beings from the planet Dac (called Mon Calamari by off-worlders). The alien race known as the Mon Calamari live on the surface while the Quarren live under the sea. From Wookieepedia:

The Quarren had many conflicts and a tense relationship with the Mon Calamari. However, in order to make their planet prosperous, they were forced to provide resources from the ocean depths so that the Mon Calamari could build star ships for off-worlders.

Only a single Quarren appeared in the original trilogy. He was Jabba the Hutt's accountant, Tessek. More Quarren were seen in the Galactic Senate chambers in the prequel trilogy.
