Time for another artistic alphabetical foray. I am drawing characters from literary sources every week for AlphaBooks!
Q is for Queen of Hearts. This moody royal comes from the 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson; Lewis Carroll was a pseudonym.
She can often be heard uttering her famous catch phrase, "Off with his head!" She loves to order the execution of anyone who perpetrates the most minor of offenses, although her husband, the King, pardons the doomed soul afterward.
One such offense involves the Queen's hatred of white roses. Several of her playing card subjects had mistakenly planted white roses. In their efforts to conceal their blunder they took to painting the roses red. When the Queen happened upon them, she of course ordered their beheadings immediately.
