Time for another artistic alphabetical foray. I am drawing characters from literary sources every week for
AlphaBooks!O is for the Outsider. It is a savage creature, genetically engineered via recombinant DNA research at a top-secret government laboratory. It was bred to be a fearsome battlefield warrior. Using a baboon as a base animal, scientists spliced genetic material together to make the creature almost as big as a man, with an elongated jaw full of reptilian-like teeth.
Even when considering the Outsider's six-inch long, razor sharp claws, its piercing yellow eyes, its misshapen head, its inhuman strength, its cat-like quickness, and its tendency to mutilate its human victims in the most gruesome of manners, its intelligence is its most fearsome trait. It will use stealth to stalk its prey. It knows how to toy with a person's mind by using tactical misdirection, causing an unwitting victim to think it's somewhere else.
It is called "the Outsider" by the research scientists at the lab where it was spawned because it does not belong. It is that which should not have been made, an animal outside the normal realm of what is natural.
In order to find out why the Outsider is holding a Mickey Mouse videotape, you'll have to read Dean Koontz's 1987 novel "
Watchers," which is my favorite book of all time. If you are a fan of suspense and horror, give this one a read. You won't regret it.
Pencil sketch.
Make sure you check out the other great submissions at the

This is really close to the mental image I had of the Outsider. Even if it is deformed, you can clearly see the baboon-like features and the reptilian jaw. The savage yellow gaze is frightening.
The Mickey Mouse tape is a nice touch. Great work!
