Time for another artistic alphabetical foray. I am drawing characters from literary sources every week for AlphaBooks.

S is for Scarecrow. This friend of Dorothy Gale is in search of a brain. He's hoping the Wizard of Oz can provide him with one. Unfortunately, a Flying Monkey sent by the Wicked Witch of the West has shredded him up and tossed his coverings in a tree.

L. Frank Baum wrote and W. W. Denslow drew pictures for the original 1900 children's novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Over the past century the story has been told and retold in countless forms from the movies to television to comics. There have been sequels, Broadway musicals, and other redundant manifestations of this popular hero-goes-on-a-quest-to-get-back-home story.
