Time for another artistic alphabetical foray. I am drawing characters from literary sources every week for AlphaBooks!
L is for Lennie. Lennie Small is an ironic name, as this guy was rather large. What he had in size he lacked in intellect. He was mildly retarded but a good worker.
To find out why a gentle giant who loves rabbits (or anything soft . . . he obsesses over touching soft objects) has a gun to his head, read John Steinbeck's depression era drama, Of Mice and Men.
I've never read the book myself, but I saw the trailer for the most recent film adaptation, the 1992 version with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich, about a thousand times. It was played on an endless promotional loop in the lobby of the movie theater in which I was employed as a teen.
Pencil sketch.
Make sure you check out the other great submissions at the AlphaBooks tumblr.
