Time for another artistic alphabetical foray. I am drawing characters from literary sources every week for AlphaBooks!
K is for Kemlo. He's an infantry shock troop of the Therem Alliance who suffered some mayhem in a Yal wirefield. The molecular wire that the Yal use to line the protective barrier around important military installations can cut right through a man. Kemlo here lost a foot on a relatively unimportant G class planet that the Therem want to occupy.
Kemlo comes from the 1988 science fiction novel, "Their Master's War" by Mick Farren. When I was 14 years old I found a copy of this paperback book on the sink in a bathroom at Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg, Maryland. It was a new book; someone had forgotten it when they'd used the facilities.
I took it home and read it. It was like nothing I'd ever read at the time. I don't know exactly how many times I've read it, but it's a favorite of mine to this day. I'm not sure if it's even still in print.
Pencil sketch.
