Here's my latest entry for AlphaBands!
Out in the rural area of Warrenton, Virginia is a small but dedicated alternative music scene. My drawing this week involves the best you can find there: a talented group of guys who combine under the name Daycare Swindlers.
Their music draws influences from street punk, skater punk, surf punk, ska, metal, and even country. They've been at it since the early-mid 1990s and have honed themselves into a sharp, tight, live unit. They are heavy, melodic, rough, raw, and god damned fun. I've seen them dozens of times in five different states.
My AlphaBands drawing includes representations of nine of their songs and has an album cover hidden in it, but the central subject is their homage to cold war espionage, "Spy Vs. Spy". This song is a crunchy, jaunty trip into 1960's-era James Bond movie themes. If you get time you should listen to it. It's awesome. And the video to which I've linked has the lyrics posted so you can sing along!
Full disclosure: I am fortunate to be able to call these guys friends. So here's to Noah, Scrote, Stevie, Luke, Mike, and Reiter for all the good times and great tunes!
